Just booked up to go to Picos de Europa/Asturias regions in June. I've skirted the Picos a long time ago en route to Barca MotoGP and always wanted to return, great roads and not much traffic off-season. Will probably have a base somewhere and do daily ride-outs rather than packing up each day, might split it 50/50 between Picos and Asturias. I'll be in the UK so will be getting the Plymouth - Santander ferry. Looked at Portsmouth initially but it's 31hrs, not sure why the huge difference, but 21hrs is enough going from Plymouth.

I did 2 off roading trips to Picos years ago. We went from Portsmouth and it was 2 nights on the ferry. The organisers chose Portsmouth as it was easier for most people to get to. Both times May Spring Bank holiday week, and the 2nd trip was really hot. Still found some snow on top though. When I went to Jerez for MotoGP in March, I went from Plymouth and it was just 1 night on the ferry. Got to Santander and the Picos was covered in snow. So couldnt ride through the hills.

We stayed at this place for a few nights. It used to be the local royalties summer palace. It had suits of armour and old crap like that everywhere. Out in the sticks next to the trails so was perfect. I think its been sold and done up now. When they say 4* and contact hotel for prices I guess it gone up in price somewhat. www.hotelarhacarmona.com/ goo.gl/maps/k7PUYTaGAiLgohmS7 The other place we stayed was 2km from Potes. Little 2* hotel next to the trail to the hills. Garage for the bikes. Potes was a good stayover for a few days. goo.gl/maps/gGkxXifvGVJXtxB96

Cheers for the info Phil. I’d already made a provisional booking in Potes, seems quite a popular small town to stay as a base. Would’ve preferred going via Portsmouth but 2 nights on a ferry is too much.

Whatever you get up to Beefus enjoy it.
I've seen a foreign trackday weekend in march . Anyone ridden Gaudix? Is it worth 1k for a 3 days including bikes?

Guadix is a circuit BSB use for winter testing iirc, so must be a bit better than Cartagena, still a fun track. What does 1k cover exactly? If it looks to good to be true, then it probably is. Link?

When I did trips to Spain with Focussed Events they did the whole package without bike hire, but included bike transport. So 1k for 3 days on track with bike hire, flights, accommodation & transfers seems good. Go for it.

4 consecutive days on track? Fuck that, I'd be destroyed! They do 3 days for £40 less. When I went to Cartagena & Jerez with Focused Events we had 4 days on track. It was 2004/05,the early days of them doing trips abroad and they only took 50. 2 groups in the mornings and open pit lane in the afternoons. I couldnt do that now. Days 3 & 4 I stopped about 4pm as I'd had enough, track was open until 6pm. They had someone to do tyre changes for free and I used 1 front & 2 rears. I kept them for road use later as I didnt use the edges on the road. We had to take a 25l jerrycan so they could go down to the local petrol station as the circuit's pump prices were astronomical. I think FE charged an extra 10cents/l over the pump price which saved us fair whack over the circuit's prices.

My goal for 23 is to do some different tracks too.
Next closest to me apart from Jarama is Albacete, nothing spectacular by all accounts, but cheap and different so I'l probably give it a go. I'd like to do Motorland too if I can. I hit the big 50 in September so I get to choose how we spend some of the summer holiday as part of my birthday celebration so I've been looking at villas with a pool near Portimao....

Just got back from a week's holidays on the Algarve with a track day at Portimao thrown in or good measure. Magnificent track!
So many blind spots makes it tought to get right (probably I dodn't get it "right" even once in the whole day, but at least once I knew which way it went after every blind crest I felt better!)
I went in the "beginners" group but wasn't the slowest out there. By the afternoon some of the others were getting in my way, especially in that everlasting final corner (with blind exit of course). What was odd is that there are corners which I couldn't seem to do fast enough, in that I felt I should have been wider on the exit, but had to artificially go out wide for the next turn.
Worst part of the day was getting toasted by a guy on an unidentified race scooter, some 2 stroke beast that smelled fantastic and ripped past everyone in the beginners group several times...
Brilliant day. I ordered the pro photos pack, don't konw when they'll arrive though. If thers's any decent ones I'll post some.

Damn bro. Making me jealous. That track is awesome. I'm very acquainted with it in VR sim racing way and yes, that last corner is a cunt to get right. That and the first corner as it's tempting to charge it?
