Thinking of chucking some money at Halfords Advanced range stuff. I was going to spunk my money a new VR headset up perhaps some decent tools are a better investment. I've already got a decent range of sockets in 3/8 and 1/2 inch but was thinking of improving my torx range and getting some flex-head ratch spanners and also maybe a decent 1/4 set for smaller jobs.
My 3/8 set is a clarke's ones from Machine Mart and it's last a long time with zero deformation so maybe a trip there may be worth while.

Can't help you there.
I buy what seems reasonable at the time depending on the expected use I'll give it. My last socket set was bought when I realised that there was no way I was going to do the head gasket on my car with the shit I had. The brand is "BM" (No, neither had I) but virtually nothing has broken in 15 years except for the ratchets. I replaced them with Stanley ratchets, they're just about OK, but not worth recommending.

Sealey used to be quality but the reviews seem hit and miss these days. Quite a few tool brands have ended up with the Sports Direct effect and have gone crap or mediocre.

I've got the large Halfords advanced set and it's good quality for the money. Never pay full price for it as it's regularly on sale at 50% off.
The most annoying feature is the thin film of foam that separates the sides of the set when it's closed. First time you open it you're tempted to bin this but you need it to keep everything in place when it's closed. Fucking awful, lazy design.
Anyway, they're not Teng or Snap-on but are excellent quality for the money and have a lifetime guarantee. And i speak as someone who utterly fucking despises Halfords.

My local Halfords have suffered the get dad some tools for Xmas sold out problem. Machine mart seemed have turned into one of those wank places that never has any stock and you can collect in 3 days. I don't want to do that. I want to go in a store and look at stuff.

If you really want the Halfords Advanced set, and against my utter contempt for everything Halfords related I do recommend it, I'd hold off until they have more stock in and have it reduced.
It's 90% of what you'll ever need and I've found it to have most solutions for awkward access scenarios. You'll probably still need to buy a 34ml to get the rear axle loosened but you've probably got that already.

I bought one of these Halfords sets a couple of years back and they are indeed pretty decent. Unless you're spannering every day you're wasting your money on Snap on and the like
