Been watching lots of car restoration/rebuilds on YouTube. Also been looking on copart.co.uk and there's a lot of stuff to choose from. Seeing as I tend to buy shit dressed up as not shit, maybe I should just buy shit that's been declared shit and save myself some money?
Some of the cars seem written off for very minor cosmetic reason and my current car has more dents and scrapes than stuff on sale for peanuts. The motorbikes seem pretty tempting as they are either wrecked cat B stuff that can't be put on the road or just the usual shit you get from sliding down the road. I'm guessing the bloke next door who seems to into making streetfighters with skull headlights gets stuff from places like this.
If you buy stuff that's definitely from insurance companies there's not much of a scam involved but they also sell stock from private individuals as well which apparently is often dead or dying cars.

I bought my first bike after passing my test as salvage from a breaker.
Mk1 RG250 Gamma, and although it was a bit rough, it wasn't so bad really. The back brake was siezed on with the pistons rusted into the caliper, the forks were practically empty, but luckily only needed new seals and refilling and the carbs were so far out of sync that until 3/4 throttle it was only running on one cylinder. It had almost certainly been crashed or raced or both. But it was cheap.
In a couple of weeks it was cleaned up, with a rebuilt back brake, synced carbs, oil in the forks and was quite a good bike all things considered. I seem to remember I changed the head gasket too, but I think it wasn't strictly necessary, maybe we thought it leaked or maybe we just wanted to check the pistons and bores, can't remember now, but it wasn't a big issue in the end anyway.
Budget biking for skint student types? Suits you sir.

Seen a 2008 zx10, damaged is exhaust side slide stuff. Pegs , exhaust, fairings and bar ends. Rest seems ok. Assuming nothing like frame is bent, given it's cat N, it could be a bargain. Tbh it's not what I'm looking for but people don't tend to crash the slower stuff.
Ideally a royal Enfield with minor damage will pop up
