For the past few years I've been reading books and watching vids on improving riding but can't for life of me sit back off the tank. It feels really forced to move my arse back.
I'm fully Simon Crafar. He advises sitting up front and has sitting back off the tank as one of his biking rule myths. I'd probably say sitting back helps kneedown but for normal road riding sitting up more seems more useful?

My style is hands on the bars, feet on the footrests, arse on the seat 🙂

I'm more Kevin Schwantz than Marc Marquez on the road; proper old, keeping myself upright for maximum visibility. I shift my weight around a little bit, but not to the extent where I've only got one buttock on the seat. I don't try to get my knee down on the road... mainly because I find it difficult to do on the track, let alone on the road, plus I can't see the point of doing it on the latter unless you're posing.

I generally don't move my lower half at all. supposedly the top half is more important. I'm too old and slow to smooth shift the weight about as you're supposed to lift your arse side to side, not drag it across the seat. It just upsets the bike. Doesn't matter if I'm fucking about on the roundabouts or a set corner.
I also don't use the rear brake at all. The only time I use it is on a hill start.

I’m with Pants, I ride a Multistrada so bolt upright, comfy no moving around the seat riding position..my days of leaning forward over the tank are long gone, I couldn’t physically ride a super bike now without discomfort, not for any distance anyway…kneedown is for track days…

Just feels wrong in a corner. The stretch to the bars on my 'Blade just feels right, maybe I'm accustomed to it. It's the ridiculous leg room that cripples me.

I used to do the hanging off the seat bit but, in reality on the road, I don't think it got me round corners any faster than being upright, it just felt like it. But whatever works for each individual!.

Not sure "style" is the right word, but as much as I try, I just can't move my head with respect to the bike... It's like its locked in position behind the screen and no matter how much I try to move the rest of my body, my head stays on the center line!

No mirrors, no excuses for that style Clipper, stick that head out. Bonus points for trail braking though.

But whatever works for each individual!. It's not really about hanging off for me. I've tried a couple of adventure tourers and found cornering mildly terrifying and I think that there are a couple of reasons to do with head position. First, with your head being further back, there's the feeling of a disconnect from the front wheel. This gives the impression of 'lack of feedback' compared to when your body is more over the tank. Second, with your head being higher, it moves through a larger arc for the same lean angle compared to a sports bike. I think that this gives the impression that you're leaning further because your head moves more. It's probably similar to riding pillion. I suspect that these effects are just down to what you're used to and that most people would adapt given more time on a different style of bike.

It's a while since I rode a bike with handlebars. Prefer non extreme clip ons with in my opinion are much comfier on the road to keep out of the wind and getting over the tank is the fastest way to go quick through the twisties. Knee out and half an arse out is my fast style.
