Since I got the Covids in March, my exercising has been a fucking mess. Didn't start cycling until late June and it's been inconsistent although I can still batter through 40km in a bawhair over 2 hours. Also gave up the gym last year and the result is that my body is starting to resemble a dropped lasagne.
Anyway, I had this app on my phone. It's been there forever and I'd never used it so I fired it up. It's a 30 day program so you really need to stick to it.
What's it like? Well, since you asked, I set it up with my age, weight, height, etc. And since I can still knock out a reasonable effort on the bike, I selected the 'advanced' option. That was my first mistake. It's only 20 minutes a day and it's basic stuff like crunches, plank, triceps dip, etc BUT, you only get 10 seconds rest between each set and that's what really fucks you. You're starting an exercise still mangled from the previous one and it's very effective.
Honestly, I feel much more fucked after this than I do after 2 hours of cycling even though I'm only burning a fraction of the calories and after a week I can definitely feel the benefit of it. My core feels more solid and I've used muscles that thought they had retired. Given the nature of the exercises I should also be able to do them in my hotel room if I'm working away too.
Any other cunt bothering their arse?

Been cycling to work most days as no fucking kids to ferry about for school etc.
Sleep is the biggest game changer I need to unlock. Just can't get enough.

Cycling to work can be a bit of a double edged sword. If it's too close then you're not seeing loads of benefit. If it's too far then you need to get up at a stupid time and get a shower when you arrive. I've done it a couple of times but it's close to 2 hours each way.
If the distance is just right then it's brilliant. Saves a fortune in fuel/fares and gets your daily exercise done.

Started back at the gym in June, just basic push pull stuff. Interested in the App you mentioned Noodle…what’s it called?

It's very unimaginatively called Lose Weight App for Men. I don't remember if I downloaded it or if it came with the phone. There must be thousands of fitness apps though and it might be worth looking at some reviews. This one seems to work for me (although I'm only a week in) and it's very light on adverts.

Glad I didn't disappoint! I'll take a look. I've been training quickly in the gym, limited rest between sets...mostly because I can't be arsed spending too much time there. Get in, get it done and fuck off.

I've been riding to work (18 miles away, so 1 hr 15-2 mins) as much as possible when not wfh. I got cleaned out on Friday and at home suffered the worst ever cramps. They got a bucket out because I couldn't stop it and I felt sick.
I have a 'commute' pace and have seen some lowish average heart rates.
Still 1.5 stone too heavy but enough summer time to address that.

That's a decent pace Eddie. Is that on a road bike?
My work's a similar distance but I take a detour up on to the canal. Adds a few miles but is much safer (and prettier).

Yes. Mostly country lanes with cycle lanes near work. I'm really lucky. It boots my mood no end.

MTBs suck for road use. I'm about 3mph slower on mine even with slicks.

MTBs suck for road use. I'm about 3mph slower on mine even with slicks. Fatter tyre + smaller diameter wheels + higher rolling resistance = lower speeds for the same effort. All that I get these days with regard to exercise is a 30 - 45 minute walk everyday at (assuming that it's not too hot, so no walking this week!). Gone are the days of gym 3 times a week, swimming twice a week and running once a week; kids and work get in the way!

I've not had a road bike for years but I do remember the seating position being a back breaker. Having said that, I got a go of a mate's gravel bike a couple of years ago and it did seem like an excellent compromise.

During the lockdowns I started doing workouts at home. Followed these nice folks free videos on youtube. I later paid $10 to download their monthly workout planner, 5 workouts a week, 2 rest days. I did 1 a day followed by a couple of hours walk over the local heath, I didnt bother with the rest days. I lost a few pounds and felt fitter than I'd been in the past 10 years. Post lockdowns, I carried on, unless I was out windsurfing. Then I started getting a couple of twinges in my calfs and hamstring tendons, but like a muppet just carried on. I've torn a calf muscle and had cramps there before, so modified my exercises at the time and all was fine. This time I just carried on, and the cramps got worse, so last September I stopped for a few months. Then lost the desire to restart. Then it got too fucking hot. After 1 hours windsurfing now, I'm done, although improving slowly. A few years ago, 2 hours non-stop was the norm. When I used to do canoe racing in my 20s I used to train 6 days a week sometimes twice on Saturdays/Sundays. There was always 1 rest day. If I felt knackered, I used to an easy session to just loosen up a bit. As I get older, resting is probably more important. Speaking to a local windsurfer who is a retired GP (but still in the know), he said thats been very common during lockdown, people overdoing it. www.youtube.com/c/Hasfit

Once you get older everything seems to fuck something. I seem ok with road bike position but due to broken spokes I swapped to the MTB for a bit and it seemed to cause all manner of aches and pains due to the slightly different posture and having flat pedals and moving my feet about all the time.
The only thing that seems a good idea all the time is hanging from my garage roof from a pair of BMX bars attacked to a hook. Great back and shoulders stretch.

I take longer to "wake up" in the mornings now, in my younger shift working years I would get up at 4, catch a train to Liverpool St at 5 to be at work for 0630 to start a 12 hr shift. No way could I even think about doing that now. You have to manage your expectations and your injuries as you get older, but as long as you're keeping mobile and doing some sort of basic resistance training that's enough.
I'd imagine an hour windsurfing would be enough for me, that's if I could stay upright!!
