Sounds like the previous owner had a mate who does MOTs....

Yeah, starting to get that feeling. There's a few other things which are making me think it's been a trackday bike.
One of my mate's reckons all they do is bounce the front on the brakes at most MOT places so it's possibly my riding has loosened it from a passable tightness to being actually loose. Tbh, i've worked on stuff and then forgot to tighten stuff properly after getting to the nip it up stage. I'm writing if off as shit happens at the moment. The dude had a double garage with hydraulic bench and all the tools you'd ever need so it's not like it looked like he was the sort that kept it under cover in the back alley and used a punch instead of c-spanner.
Rode it to work today and it seems ok now. Just keeping an eye of locking ring positions and feel and see how it goes. Need to get universal baffle for it though. Straight through stainless system and Yoshi with no baffle.

This is brilliant. They've invented a centre stand. To be fair it does look handy. Still need to hang the front from the garage roof but that's no big deal.

Nah, I bought one and its great, with a jack under the exhaust collectors you can pivot it onto the back wheel without a lot of weight going through the jacking point. I loosen all the big nuts and bolts before tipping it back to be sure, but I've done steering bearings, fork seals, twice and loads of stuff with it. No bother. And it uses 3/4 inch drive sockets for the swingarm pivot mounts so even if you're a Mekon and you lose them, you just have a rummage round the toolbox for some more.

Knowing nothing about GSXRs I just assumed having a what looks like full system would mean awesome. Having taken the Yoshi off as it was TOO FUCKING LOUD AT 106db!!! (2 of the 4 bolts had been cross threaded so will need helicoiling) and put the original back on I also came across a video about SET valves. What's a set valve? Seems like it's an EXUP type thing. Of course I don't have one on my full system. Would explain the lack of lower grunt this 600 supposedly had. Can't be arsed finding an original manifold and all the SET valve shit to refit. It's probably got a fucking power commander under the seat if I bother to look. I'll take all the plastic off this winter when I replace the fairings (thinking of going full refit with Lucky Strike in black, white and gold ) Will also drill the rivets off the Yoshi and repack it and fit a db killer to it as it still looks miles better than the standard bazooka exhaust. I just can't handle the brutal volume. Kids hold their ears as go past.

If the SET valve removal isn't throwing an FI error code, just ignore it.
In theory the valve did make the bike more "street friendly" by giving some back pressure in the lower rev ranges, two ways to get round that are to put it all back or ride at higher revs... on the 750s it was not there from 2004 onwards. On the 600 I think it stayed untill the 2007 model year.
Don't but a fairing kit with a plastic tank cover. They're shite.

I would probably buy a used tank and get it sprayed white and then just vinyl the black bits in.
Alternatively I can just buy the same Telefonica fairings and not worry about the tank or even remove the rear plastics. The injection moulding fairings are apparently not too bad these days.
Just been out on the SV and it's more user friendly but ultimately slower if you know what you're sort of doing. Felt a bit dull after the bigger power hit of the gixxer.

Vote Telefónica!
Get a Gibernau rep, Arai and you're sorted, señor.

Somewhere on Aliexpress is doing just the side panels if you need then (which I do) so this may be the cheapest option at about £150. Need to get some allen head extractor tools as the rear sets aren't for moving. I think it's a case of steel in aluminium seizure. Had it with the KTM and the timing cover. It was cheap steel and had seized solid onto the casing. Had to take the casing off and cut a slot in cover and hit it with drift as the impact driver just swiss-cheesed the hex hole it had. I fucking hate hex heads.
Apparently the GSXR750 front end goes straight in. Something to think about. I could then stick the old front end in the SV650.
