I'm not talking about traction control, ABS. etc. I'm talking about how you've got 1000cc stuff with 140hp and it only goes 145mph. Modern bikes seem to have lost all their top end unless you are buying a WSB replica. Back in the 90s, 130hp would get you 170mph now you'll be lucky to hit 140 with that. An old 90s CBR600 is faster than modern bikes. We have regressed. Bit of pisser to have 140hp and the police can real you in with a decent BMW.

Top speed is pretty much irrelevant to me tbh, when and where can you do it?...If I'm on a long ride its not on motorways but B road bends and probably averaging 50mph if that, so low to mid-range torque is where it's at. It's a lot more fun than going for top speeds.

To be honest new bikes actually look shite. Regulations have made the rear ends look particularly brutal

From what I've read stuff like the 2005 GSXR1000 has mythical bottom end that subsequent Euro emissions rules killed? I've seen the performance stats for lots of new bikes and they aren't literally that much quicker over the 1/4 mile than my SV650 is, even big capacity ones. The new 650-700cc twins that seem all the rage are knocking out less power than bikes 15 years previous at the same size and configuration. The only one that's bucking the trend is the RS660 at 96hp.
Meanwhile the Japs could be getting that 100hp 400cc Kwak that will never pass Euro regs. Arse.

My local shop has an 18-plate Panigale in just now and it is stunning. The attention to detail on every single component is incredible. Seemingly they put out a genuine 200hp at the wheel. I'm sorely tempted to take it for a test ride but it's best if I don't. I could never justify spunking £17.5k on a motorbike but that's exactly what will happen if I ride the cunt.

Things like Ducati's and Aprilia's depreciate like f**k so exotica like that is in the range of normal mortals. You know it makes sense, life is too short. Mate bought a V4 Tuono last year, 3K miles and he paid 10K sterling. He gave me a go and it's amazing, started turning my head towards sports bike again.

If it doesn't have clip ons it's not a sports bike. That is the law. Upright positions are not allowed.

I have faith in you. Test it or regret missing the opportunity. Stop it! If I ride it then one of two things will happen. Either I'll buy it or I won't. If I buy it then I'll regret spending all that money. If I don't buy it I'll be eternally tormented over what could have been. Best that I just never know what it can do. Reading the launch reviews, it does seem like an incredible machine. Ducati's development rider apparently lapped Valencia 5 seconds slower than Dovi's fastest motogp lap and that was on a street legal bike with a rider who, while admittedly quick, is not in Dovi's league. This is a bike that will be wasted on the road. I'll just keep the 'Blade thanks.

I always remember a guy who used to turn up at track days at Jarama years back with a Desmocedici, he always wemt home at lunch time instead of doing the full day. One day someone told me that it was because he got faster as the morning went on and he went home at lunch in case he binned it going even faster in the afternoon.
Fuck that for a game of soldiers, riding a bike you can't afford to crash is no fun. Better off buying a 15 year old weekend toy for 2 grand and not giving a shit. You'll enjoy it more.

It's one thing being able to afford a £20k bike but that's very different from being able to afford watching it smash into the scenery.

This is why I'll happily cunt about on the SV or similar value bike. If it goes down the road I've only robbed the biking world of an SV650. I could, if I really wanted to, buy a RS250 but then I'd be scared to use the fucker. I'd be bothered about it blowing up or me sliding it down the road at the local roundabout and then having a bill for unobtainium parts and thinking some other cunt would have taken better care of it.
For me personally, other than in a straight line, I think my limit is about 100hp that I could actually use down my local roads. I really don't think I'd be going much faster, maybe a bit more composed with better suspension. I bet that Aprilia RS660 has all I need. Seen a couple for about £8k with 2k miles on.

My mate has got a rs660 test ride coming up and I've advised him to ride mine for 10 minutes before he does otherwise he'll think it's amazing compared to his rc390.
On paper the 2004 sv does a 11.8 quarter. The rs660 has about 25,HP more and does it in 12.8. that's shit. Must have no mid range.
