Nice bloke and a good all-rounder. But, I was thinking if he won the series it would take some of the prestige away from The British Superbike championship. Not saying it would be a disaster if he won it but I doubt the series organisers would want him as their champion. He is neither a young gun nor an old world championship experienced rider. He is just a fringe top ten BSB rider for the past 11 years or so who has had a few good (some excellent) results. Anyone agree or is it just me thinking this?

Its been a mixed season so far, lots of injuries, bad luck and inconsistent performances. Hickman and O'Halloran are the only riders to score points in every race. Hickman has only had 1 really good round, Thruxton. I'd say thats fairly reflective of his riding, he isnt a regular visitor to the podium but does have some good weekends now and then.

He's having a purple patch that's for sure. After his IOM successes I think he's a 'bigger' name now.

I think Hickman winning the championship would do the opposite. He isn't Shakey and he isn't in a high profile team. Isn't that what most people want? Bit like Leicester City winning the premier league.

I like seeing underdogs win (that's the British way) but I just feel it would lessen the prestige of the championship if he won. Not sure why but I do. Same in boxing when a classy, skillful, undefeated fighter gets beaten by a hard working journeyman brawler. Mixed emotions on that front. When I was a young lad, I wanted Tyson to get beat and when Douglas did it, I was gutted. Besides I like Shakey and anytime he wins is fine by me. I met him a few times when he was a young lad. He was working for Colwyn Bay motorcycles in Sittingbourne and he raced a YZ 125 in local club races. He used to practice sometimes with us and the Husqvarna team I worked for in British MX. He was a lovely lad then. Hasn't changed a bit. I would actually like to see Hickman get the star treatment with a top team. I know he was with JG Speedfit last year but he was very much the third rider.

He's doing well at the Ulster GP at the moment, he's certainly a good all rounder. I thought Whitham was on form when he called Hickman the Swiss army knife of racing.

A few years ago it would have been unthinkable that Peter Hickman or anyone from a smaller team could win a race or even have a chance of the title but BSB in it's current format with no expensive electronics (TC) and the showdown situation has meant it's now possible to be in with a shout of the top spot mostly with talent.
What WSB should do before it dies.
