The bike swap is just a bit of theatre really. MM had his 2nd bike ready for a dry ride because Honda assumed/knew/guessed that the weather was improving and that he'd be in after 4 or 5 laps....why were some teams not ready?...bizarre state of affairs.

I think it was wetter than it looked on TV at the start.

Poor Scott. Timed the swap right but still right down the order.

MM said he asked for a soft wet after the sighting lap so guess his team set about changing the spare bike to dry straight away so it would be ready. Folgar pitted at the same time as Marquez but rode straight through, guess his bike wasnt ready either. Barbera the same on the next lap. Maybe HRC/Marquez learnt a lesson at PI a few years ago with the compulsory pit stop, get the tactics correct and dont fuck it up.

The rules used to be that when you swapped bikes, you had to go out on a different front-rear tyre combination on the spare bike than the one entered the pits on. Most people seemed to think that the conditions would improve, but the weren't sure by how much. Maybe MM's spare bike had a "damp" setup e.g. wet on the front, slick on the rear with suspension settings to suit?

Redding's head has gone. He needs to step down a level with a competitive ride and rebuild. It could take a couple of seasons but he needs to stop thinking staying in MotoGP at all costs is the answer. WSB, BSB or even AMA. It has to be on on top spec machinery in either class though. Ducati or Kawasaki in WSB or look elsewhere.

If his head is fragile then Aprillia is the last place he needs to be. He's replaced Sam.

I dont get it - why would you have both bikes ready with a wet setup? In case there is an issue with the 1st bike on the sighting lap, or even the warmup lap. I still dont get it - what would be more likely: the chance the wet bike breaks down on the warmup lap - or the chance a dry bike would be needed as it stopped raining a while back and the track is drying...

I dont get it either. I cant remember the last time in MotoGP someone swapped bikes on the warmup lap, although there must have been a bike not starting at some point and the rider jumping on the spare and starting from pit lane. Or someone crashing on the warmup lap near the pits*. If the team decide to have both bikes set up the same until the actual race start, they must know how long it takes to change the setup, so the rider should be told dont come in until x laps. There shouldnt be an issue with the 2nd bike not being ready unless they have a problem changing the setup for some reason. At Brno it was clear the track was drying, but it seems only the HRC team responded. * video.eurosport.co.uk/british-superbikes/rider-flipped-into-the-air-in-terrifying-freak-crash_vid992891/video.shtml This happened at Brands this year. One rider slid down the track and hit the rear tyre of another bike and got flipped up.

I watched the race on TV with 3 other guys - we all said exactly the same thing after just a few laps - its race over, MM has already won this. Anyway, rant over, its just frustrating as a viewer when it looked to be set for a good one. This year has been a bad one for the weather - not many meetings have had a fully dry weekend. That clip is a bad one!
