You can't help but admire the man, 48 years old and competing again in Australian Superbikes. Shows the class of Troy that he finished 4th in championship after Phillip Island. Son Olly leads the 300 class. Would have been easy to keep his hand in by going the classic route but Bayliss was always a unique racer. Good luck to him. www.facebook.com/AustralianSuperbikes/videos/10160024631835402/?t=3

Despite his age at the time, he retired too soon. He was a late starter. He had at least one more WSB title in him if he had not retired in 2008.

I get a feeling it has more to do with progressing his sons career. I can remember Ron Haslam doing similar when Leon started in 125's, they actually rode in the same class.

Anyone keep TV on after WSBK and catch the Austin superbike. Jeez, Bayliss is some animal. Beating Waters and Staring after 21 years off is some going.Troy Herfos looks useful. Series not nearly as strong as BSB though.

Series not nearly as strong as BSB though. Only seen race one at Philip Island so far. Fuck sakes, what a race !! I was a massive Bayliss fan from the 1st season he did in BSB and all through his WSB career but never thought for a minute he would be as competitive after all these years retired. How wrong can you be. He can win again, no doubt. So impressive. Disagree about the series not as strong as BSB. 50 starters and the race at he front was brilliant. Awesome racing

Fair dinkum, cobber. His son Oli looks to be heading the right way, to the top. www.mcnews.com.au/asbk-2018-round-1-phillip-island-ss300-wrap/I noticed a Crump in the results. Turns out he is the son of speedway rider Jason Crump, who's dad is Phil Crump who I used to watch at Newport speedway a very long time ago.

Top bloke TB, but I have a feeling he'd get beaten up in BSB...that's not to say he couldnt do top 10.

I remember a workmate who was pals with a bloke sponsoring a 250 cc rider called Phil Stead, the year of Bayliss' first BSB season, every Monday he'd be shaking his head about Bayliss saying what a nutter he is, unbelievable, blah blah, he was awestruck, ended up spectating at loads of meetings before he buggered off to Oz.

Another name from the past, Nori Haga. He now owns a restaurant in Milan and just watched him live on motorsport.tv channel coming 9th in the Italian Supersport race. Qualified 22nd. I dont think its a comeback, as he has been racing in the Asian SS600 series as well.

From what I can work out from the interviews he jumped in last minute because the team management wasn't happy with the rate of improvement of the existing rider they were developing. That's even more impressive cos he's just ragging the thing, burning up tyres mid race and hanging on to it. Still learning how to ride and set the Ducati up but staying with the front runners.
