Personally it's exceptionally good days only from me now. I can't be arsed with the roads now they appear to have turned to grease. The roads have that horrible slick sheen on them now and even my Mini is spinning it's wheels up and sliding about. You need that freeze dried cold or for them to be properly wet, that inbetween shit is not fun.
I commuted on the KLX for 2 winters and it certainly was not fun in any way or form.

Did some winter riding to a from works a couple of years ago. Studded Trelleborg Army spesials on an XR600. Was good fun as long it as cold and dry. Too often it got slushy and they salt the roads here. Constant spray of shit on your visor and salt eating up the bike regardless of spraying with ACF50.

I used to ride all year round too, get's pretty chilly here in winter, but not that much rain or snow.
I fitted heated grips and used "road" oriented tyres and hoped for the best. I did leave the bike at home a few times though when the humidty was high enough to expect ice or when snow was forecast.
The problem with winter commuting is that even though the day might be clear and dry, the journies are usually in the dark and at the coldest point in the morning. Riding below 0º for any legth of time does bocome a chore I reckon. I hate wearing fat gloves. going for a blast at the weekend at 7º on a crisp winter afternoonb can be quite pleasant though.
Very little salting here except on mountain roads, so not too much corrosion to worry about.

Still commute by bike in all weathers. Dont mind the rain & always run the best all season tyres, false economy not to. However, Dublin roads get unbelievably greasy on cold winter mornings and when evening dew falls. Slippery as in big off-throttle front & rear slides. Way more grip in full rain. Its like the road is covered in a layer of slime, spoke to a courier and he said it started when we went to CO2 based tax & everyone got diesels. That said, my k1300 is way better than the 950sm on damp roads, must be the extra weight or the PR5 tyres which quite frankly are astonishing in the rain. Lydon was right, never trust a hippy.

The slime is the worst. I remember the vfr would spin up in 4th. I suppose if commuted all the time I could get something low power that simply did the job.
At least with the Kmx you could drop it and damage nothing.
