You mentioned before that your bie had lost some coolant (hence suspecting a porous rad), but is it possible that the lost coolant has found its way into the oil via a failed head gasket? Try the thermostat route first for sure, but I've never heard of thermostat problems on these bikes, HG failures on the other hand are known of, although not common. My bike had a full service about 2 weeks before the radiator was holed and nothing was mentioned about coolant in the oil, but I'll check on the weekend. |

Might be worth pressure testing the cooling system.

Well, the thermostat is definitely buggered as it wouldn't open at all, even in boiling water; new one ordered (£40) and on it's way!
