Anyone into pooters?
We bought a laptop (Windows) at Xmas that came with Norton free trail which has obviously expired. Have bad memories of Norton from years past, having to disable it to do virtually anything so looking for an alternative.
Thoughts?

I think Meeks is your man, Mr the toe cutter. My anti virus advice goes about as far as "AIDS, Don't die of ignorance"

I just have free Avast on mine with the occasional deep clean from C cleaner or similar and an odd run through with Malware bytes. Avast is the only one I leave running. The free one doesn't seem too intrusive and does seem to block dodgy software on Web pages.
Trouble with any software is everyone thinks theirs is best. I just went for the one with a small background footprint due to gaming. I need every bit of power going.

I appreciate the feedback. My boy uses the computer for gaming, so the less resources it uses the better. I'll have a look at Avast.

I use Norton. I thought my laptop was getting slower and slower, on its way out. Spreadsheets used to crash. This went on for months. Then Norton threw out a 6 digit error code, which I googled and got the Norton help page. It said uninstall Norton and reinstall. Hey presto, a fast running laptop again. The worst part is the continual bumping up of the annual fee if you use the auto renew. Something like £65. So last year I rang them up for a moan about that, they gave it me for £25. This year they had 2 year offer for £50, then its auto renew for £65 a year, which will be dealt with at the time.
I dont do gaming so cant comment on that.

Unless you frequent proper dodgy websites then a lot of the old hijack stuff seems to have died out. Even piracy websites seem to have realised it's better to run adverts for cash.

You could be right. Everyone can get decent free anti viris software these days.
The scammers probably get more income by fraud from asking people for their credit card details on Facebook and the like. To win 2 tickets on Easyjet__UK giveaway signup for our free entry. Followed by you have won, please give us your credit card details for the airport tax.
If they want your date of birth - What was number 1 in the charts on your 18th birthday? Enter your middle name & day of birth to get your pornstar name. 1 - stud 2 - stallion etc
To get the older gullible people to target - name a part of a car that younger people have never heard of?
I see this regularly on FB with friends of mine replying. These are always the people who seem to get their FB accounts hacked as well. One was a boss at my old place of work, head of an IT dept. Unreal.

Unreal. The porn star name was always a belter. First pet's name and your mother's maiden name. Cunts are still falling for that. I've been off Facebook for a few years now and don't miss it. Don't get me wrong, I've lost contact with everyone but they were mostly cunts anyway.

Sounds to me like Phil knows a little touch about this scamming business....
It always amazes me how industrious these people are at scamming. There's a guy called Jim Browning on YouTube that's like a ninja of it scam busting. Worth a watch just to see the sort of things that go on.

Sounds to me like Phil knows a little touch about this scamming business.... I'm just good at thinking a little deeper about things and not taking whats written as always correct, whats behind it, good observational skills, questioning why are they posting that etc.
