If I had gone and checked in 1998 I think people with computer programming skills would have been in demand due to the Y2K bug. But didn't it get fixed by a chemist who invented a gel called Y2K-KY that helped you get 4 digits in one date? 👋👋👋

Planned to live in the south island Phil. My wife and I rode round both islands on a Triumph Tiger starting in Auckland. I actually fancied living in the Nelson area but for work had decided on Christchurch. Maybe dodged a bullet in a way cos subsequently they had an earthquake and a terrorist attack. Thought the South Island was beautiful and an adventurist’s heaven. Fond memories and I’ve love to go back again. Nice. I stayed in Nelson for a couple of nights. Did a kayak trip in the Abel Tasman, rafting trip down the Buller Gorge. Whenever I get a bottle of Kiwi wine from the Coop its usually a Pinot Noir from the Marlborough region. The Marlborough Sound is a stunning area as well. At the backpackers I had a conversation with a young very slightly built Japanese girl about her 'potholing' experience. She didnt look the outdoor type and I hadnt read anything about potholing in the guides. "No no, pot-er-ry". Funny how things like that stick in your mind.

Well, I went to the original site near Queenstown, on a bridge over a river and watched for a while to suss it out. Funny enough most of the victims were Japanese and you had the choice of dropping short or dipping in the river. I wandered over to the action in the middle of the bridge and got a birds eye view of the jump. By that time I was absolutely shitting a brick and thought, fuck that, I’ll keep my fear of heights. Conclusion, the Japanese are fucking mental.

I had a look at the bungy jumping bridge near Queentown when I did a MTB ride past it. Fuck that. Not remotely interested in jumping out of a plane either.

Funny how a lot of your "what ifs" are based on moving away from the UK. Mine would be the opposite. I know of people who used to report to me when I was a manager in the UK 18 years ago who are now earning 6 figure salaries, and here am I in one of the western european countries with the lowest level of wages... Sometimes I think that I'm a twat for throwing away my UK career, but I do think that life in Madrid is more pleasant. And if hadn't moved to Spain, I probably wouldn't have had the chance to live and work in Thailand and that has been pretty much the highlight of my life so far.
I also take solace that the guys back in the UK earning 50% more than me probably have the bills to match, so probably they aren't that much better off.
I don't really think of any other alternatives, sometimes I think I should have studied law considering the amount of legal and contractual content my job has, but then if I had studied law, I'd probably be in some fucking boring legal firm, or maybe even I wouldn't have been able to continue in Spain as a lawyer, so probably it's better I didn't...
Should never have sold my RGV250 though.
Nor my 750 Turbo.

Should never have sold my RGV250 though. Nor my 750 Turbo. Too right you shouldn't have ! I rode my mates Schwantz helmet replica RGV250 before and after he crashed it; before it tuned on a fart, afterwards it felt as though someone had pinched the front wheel.
