Years ago I was an advocate of the BBC and the way it was funded. It kept Murdoch at bay and pissed him off. But over the last decade it has become a shadow of it's former self. I just don't see how in this day and age a license fee can be forced onto the British public. Yes you can opt out but when you do you are constantly hounded by nasty threatening letters and visits from scumbag shits. The letters are designed to frighten the uninformed into paying. I have myself forcibly removed a BBC license fee snooper from my front garden on more than one occasion. No matter what you do to prove you are not in need of the license, they continue to send both letters and creepy bastards to your door.
I think it is time that they had to stand on their own feet and either seek subscription fees from those wanting their services or seek advertising revenue. Probably both. I have noticed that the left think they are right wing and the right think they are left bias. Personally I think it is obvious they have gone too far left in their coverage and I am not a conservative voter.

What they are paying just regional news people is disgusting. Staff costs are the biggest problem.

It's not black and white. The idea of the BBC is great but the reality is that money is squandered producing shite like Eastenders simply to chase ratings. Even Question Time, which has been the political flagship show for years and one of the few platforms where our politicians can be held to account, has descended into a farce with an audience hand picked according to their political views and set-ups going on between certain panelists, audience members and show producers. And you're absolutely correct about the threatening letters and enforced payment to fund it. I put them in the bin but they keep coming.
There's an argument that if it were commercially funded then quality of output would drop but it's difficult to see how it can drop any further.
Interestingly, there are probably thousands of people who pay for a license who don't actually need one. If you never watch live TV and don't watch BBC output at all then you don't need a license.

Try watching some Spanish TV, that should open your eyes. Believe me, the BBC is fucking brilliant compared to the utter, utter shite available in most countries. Is it because of the way its funded? Fucked if I know.

On the one hand, Eastenders but on the other, Inside No 9.

Let's not forget the radio. 6 Music would likely go the same way as XFM.

They've done loads but I think the world has moved on and the fee being compulsory or you get a criminal record is no longer a fare practice or ethical business model.

I dodged the licence for a few years as apparently they only hit postcode hotspots to maximise revenue/time spent. Since I was in a good postcode I took my chances but tbh I don't think I even had the TV connected to an aerial most of the time, I mostly playing games and watching films. This was when they still thought they could strongarm people into paying a licence for a monitor. I got many a letter after I told them I did not watch tv that I 'may' be breaking the law without knowing so should let them in but I just said no thanks and besides which I work 12 hours a day so don't bother.
The only reason I ended up paying eventually was my bird wanted Sky and I couldn't really get away with it with a dish on house.
Good riddance to it.

Pretty sure they're automatically generated. There are about 6 different ones, each as threatening as the other, one every 2 weeks. Interesting that they've long since given up the detector van shite.
My mate stood and argued the toss with one of their cunts for half an hour about why they couldn't come into his flat before they eventually gave up and fucked off. Doesn't even own a telly. Just likes to win.

The guy in that link's letters basically go in 12 month threat cycle. Vaguely threatening in January through to WE ARE GOING TO FIND YOU AND WE ARE GOING TO KILL YOU (sort of) in December. Then oddly the next near it goes from Terminator to litter warden through to Terminator and repeat.
Seems there is also no detector van really. Just vans with detector van on the side but nothing in them. Apart from maybe children.

Ok, ok, apart from 6records and Inside No 9, what have the BBC ever done for us? They've created a platform for racist shitcunts?
Ninety five million appearances of Farage not pictured.
