Just finished watching it. Been waiting for this film for a very long time. I won't spoil it by talking about it but suffice to say I was very disappointed. I knew most of the background that the film covers and the characters portrayed and personally I don't think this is how it went down. But that wasn't the issue. I can't see what all the reviewers are raving about with this film. Very one paced and nothing much memorable happens.

Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino, Pesci. It's the somewhat elderly dream team isn't it? I wouldn't dare question your ability to objectively criticise Droog but is it possible you went in with massive expectations that weren't quite met? I mind seeing Billy Connolly once and came out slightly disappointed because I had set such a high bar before the gig there was no way he could have achieved what I expected of him. I want this film to be brilliant so much. I'm going to convince myself it will be garbage before I watch it.
The other night it struck me that Goodfellas will be thirty years old soon. Let that sink in.

There could always be an element of that going on but I really don't think so here. I re-watched it later that night. I'm off work for the week so had the time. On second viewing I felt even more convinced I was right first time. I won't get into specifics still but when a few of you have also seen it I will discuss.

totally agree, droog. i was also off and had the time. i wish i hadn't. i'm not sure i could tell you what happened. it was beautifully shot but didn't have enough in it to last three and a half hours. also, pacino annoys me. so there's that too.
