I didn't give a fuck when I heard that Hawkings had died. However when the news about Jim Bowen came through a few hours later I was proper sad and bored all the youngsters at work, telling them what a comedy genius he was. A few clips on YouTube proved my memories of Sunday tea time watching Bullseye maybe slightly rose tinted, it was so bad. Still loved it though. What a super smashing great bloke Jim was.

My Toyota van. Only 18 years old, taken too young. RIP. Room for 4 windsurf boards and me kipping in the back on a raised platform, kit underneath. Not quite as comfortable as a motorhome but better for windsurfing kit. Happy days in Sardinia, 2003.

I know it's a tough comparison, the death of one of the greatest scientific brains, absolute genius, and the presenter of a darts TV game show, but harsh to say you don't give a fuck about Hawkings passing Norbs. I also love Bullseye and still watch it on Challenge, Bowen was brilliant as a presenter and had a great repartee with the contestants, but to be fair, he knew hee haw about astro physics and contributed nothing regarding the discovery of black holes. I can imagine at Bowen's funeral as they lower the coffin, Tony Green giving the pallbearers some wise advice. "Take your time, take your time. No pressure"

On the flip side I don't remember Steven Brain Box Hawking presenting a much loved darts based TV show or giving our glorious nation memorable catch phrases such as "stay out of the black and in the red, nothing in this game for two in a bed".

Here's my ex at a swish restaurant carpark in Bangkok, out-classing the company!! Drove that thing all over Thailand and to Laos. Great car / van / MPV thingy considering its age. Sold it after 3 years for almost the same as I paid for it, to a Portuguese guy who wanted it to lug his deltawing equipment around Asia!! I bought a Citroen C8 when I got back to Spain... what a load of shite, still miss the Granvia.

Eric Bristow, picture of health as well, I did enjoy his dark humour.

Eric Bristow, picture of health as well, I did enjoy his dark humour. Yeah, like Alex Higgins and Steve Ovett people who had a bit of character made you wanted them to beat stiffs like John Lowe, Steve Davis and Seb Coe. He was edgy alright.

Fuck off Eddie. Bristow was a flash Southern mouthy fucker whereas Lowey (as no-one called him because he was the kind of bloke who didn't need a cuntish nickname) was carved from Derbyshire granite and had no need for gimmicks such as a perm or a personality.
Just like Sheene and Haslam.
Or Jim Davison and Bernie Clifton (although Bernie did need a gimmick, a ride on ostrich..)

We all preferred John Lowe in my house during that era. Didn't dislike Bristow though. Years later I thought he was a bit of a cunt though. His comments about the footballers who were abused as youngsters were disgusting.

The backdrop picture of Jocky Wilson on Top of the Pops when Dexi's were on doing Jackie Wilson Said is priceless.
