20 years ago this would have been a joke headline

‘“Debate ends when we label views we disagree with as hatred”......”It’s better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it”.....

Sadly, the opposite seems to be happening in Universities......those institutions of knowledge, free speech and free expression, debate, learning....

I went to the old Stasi building in Berlin a few years ago, now a museum and basically untouched since the wall came down, very interesting but also sobering....we’re so lucky not to have had to live under that sort of regime, but now we seem to be heading for the 21st century version of it...stifle debate, curb free speech, only allow free expression if itagrees with a certain doctrine.....isn’t that what we were supposed to have left behind?....

I do wonder if we’ll end up in a cold, dark place where thought and opinion are monitored to the nth degree.....Stasi-esque but for the 21st century but, thanks to technology, a lot worse....give it a couple of generations....
