The Fireblade is getting on a bit now. Don't get me wrong, it's still a blindingly fast bike, is mechanically sound and just flew through another MOT but rust is creeping and there's bodywork damage that I can't be bothered fixing. I'm also getting on and struggling to scrunch myself into a wee ball to perch on top of it.
I thought that the solution might be a Triumph Speed Triple. Similar hp figure to the 'blade but a bit more comfortable riding position. So I popped down to West Coast Triumph at the weekend and it turns out that the Triples are heavily discounted (£2,200 off) as there's a new model coming. No demonstrator though and that's a bit of an issue.
So, fuck knows what to do. Throw £13.5k at a bike I've never ridden or buy a Fireblade footpeg lowering kit off Ebay for £60 and hold off a bit.
Any cunt ridden a modern Speed Triple?

I have no idea, never ridden one, but there's no way I'd jump from a fully faired R to a naked street bike. Seems like a too radical change all at once to me, but thats a personal choice I guess.
I'm always thinking about my next bike and I want to do miles on the open road so I'd go maxitrailythingy or sport touring. 13.5k is an expensive error.

I quite like the position of the bars on the 'blade, it's what I'm used to, but the peg height is too much now and it's entirely unnecessary. The hero blobs must be 4cm long and never get anywhere near the road. I also really like the motor in the 'blade so I'm not really interested in more power. I just want a bit of fucking comfort. Fed up getting off the thing utterly crippled.

RSV4 Tuono?....MT10?....SuperDuke GT?....all uber powerful and sporty, but more upright riding positions. The SDGT is probably more roomy than the other two. I presume your riding is not distance so you don't need to worry about tank range?

As an alternative to a 1000 - Ducati Hypermotard 950SP. These things are an absoulte blast. Very comfortable compared to a sportsbike but just as much fun to ride imho. Abit pricey but you can get a lower milege one for ok-ish money. Add in the SC Project or Termi system for the ultimate spec and they look awesome. Worth a test ride if you can find anywhere doing them.

Is there no where else that you can get a test ride? Maybe a local independent has 2nd hand one you could try out?

I'd love a Triumph triple too but they just seem to concentrate too much on roadsters and mock-classics, I guess that's what sells.
Even their WSS bike is a special concession to allow them to put a fairing on a naked bike.
I can't afford even a used Daytona 675R anyway so its a moot point.
That said, there was a guy at Jarama earlier this year with a Speed Triple 1200 and he loved it on the track.

There were plenty of guys on street bikes at Valencia the other week: Tuono, S1000R, M1000R, Street Triples Rs, Speed Triples Rs etc. The M1000R left my GSX-R1000 in the weeds on the main straight... it just hooked up and disappeared.

I can believe it. On the track I can see them being OK, but for more than 20 miles on the road I think it would do my head in.

Maybe a local independent has 2nd hand one you could try out? According to the salesman Triumph won't supply demonstrators because they're flying out the door without them. I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed in it but not sure about an unfaired bike. Not had one of them since i984.

The thing with a lot of these modern street bikes, you can dial all of that back on the road using the rider aids. Most of the KTMs look angry and "snappy" on track though... angry engines!

Did you know that Saltire went into administration? Seemingly no cunt knew. Workers turned up to find the doors locked, shoddy as fuck. Also, fuck knows what you would do if you had a bike in the workshop or had paid for a bike that you hadn't yet collected. Industry is seemingly quite precarious although paulg seems to be doing OK.
